Sustainable Woods From the Coquille Indian Tribe For Violins (Back+ Ribs + Neck Stock/Scroll)

This package includes high-quality wood for the back, ribs, and neck stock/scroll

Maple From the Coquille Nation. Each piece of wood is carefully dried Big Leaf Maple, Acer macrophyllum, grown and harvested on the Coquille Nation Reservation near Portland, Oregon. The wood is highly figured, with strong tonality and rich tonal response. The figure is dramatic. All wood harvested from the Reservation is certified Sustainable by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and is dried and cut by an FSC-certified Sawyer. The drying technique utilizes a low-heat vacuum, perfect for fine instrument making. Proceeds from the sale of the wood go to support civil services of the Reservation (schools, hospital roads etc.) and gene cloning is used to replace each felled tree.

The myrtle wood has a mossy green gold hue with large figured flame like a watercolor painting. The species Umbellulria californica is also known as California Bay Laurel. It is an evergreen hardwood tree native to California and the southern Oregon coast. It is the only species in the genus Umbellularia! The tree’s Tonewood property has been popular with guitar makers, but less well known in the violin world.
